i have twin 5 year old daughters and the easel work great for them. it comes basically assembled. there are only two parts to put together, the pink main part and the purple tray. very very easy! the easel also comes with the magnets that are in the picture. i can even store the art supplies in the middle of the easel because the tray goes across from one side to the other. therefore, it's like having an extra tray to hold and hide the paints, crayons, paper and etc.

5Used and loved by all of our children...a MUST-HAVE for your home or childcare!Jun 24, 2011
By Hollee Saville "mommy, childcare provider, and more"
This is an awesome easel, a must for your home or childcare (if you have the budget for one). I purchased this more than 6 years ago (in red) for my in-home childcare and it's still in perfect condition, no scratches, stains, or problems! The set back then came with plastic magnetic letters, so I was happy to see they are now foam ones when I purchased this for our church preschool. I have it in our art center and the kids are free to do what they want with it: chalk and painting on one side, dry erase crayons, dry erase markers and painting on the other. We put the magnets onto our large activity bus since it already had magnets, thus giving them more room for creativity on the easel. It is so versatile and much sturdier than the incredibly expensive 2 or 3-sided ones you buy from school supply stores. Each side has nifty storage areas for the art materials, more than they need, which is nice. Even paint cups fit perfectly on the little shelves. The area in the middle of the easel is an awesome bonus as it stores the easel paper and paintbrushes (I usually have the filled paintbrushes available to the kids and occasionally put out paint cups). The easel is impossible for the kids to fold up, so no worries about pinched fingers.

As for ages, this is appropriate for ages 1+. The only reason it's labeled as 3+ is because of the foam magnets. Otherwise, there is nothing preventing your toddler from playing with this, as all of my kids have been playing with it since they were 10 months old and my 7-year olds have loved it, too! Step 2 makes wonderful, American-made products that withstand the use and abuse of the children who love playing with them. You can feel confident that this easel will last as long as you want it to.

5Easel for twoJul 15, 2010
By S. Landry "Maine Mom"
My almost 3yo daughter loves her easel. My 8yo and 11yo have even gotten in on the fun occasionally. 11 yo is much too tall for the easel though :) The magnets that were included as free with the easel are very cheap, but they were free. They are thin foam with magnet on back. When the easel came in I had to pull the magnets off of the sheet and ripped a few in the process :(

The easel is very sturdy. My 3yo has climbed through the middle several times and it has never fallen apart.Love how easy it is to fold up and store. Also very light weight.

5Lots of fun for years to comeMar 31, 2010

My 2 year old LOVES this easel - she's just recently become very `big' on coloring and drawing, and giving her chalk to use has opened up a whole new dimension for her.

This requires very minimal assembly - the tray that goes in the middle just snaps into place and then you're good to go. It's super light and easy to move around. The magnetic letters/numbers are a nice bonus, they adhere nicely and are in assorted vibrant colors.

While the easel is just a tad bit tall for an average 2 year old my daughter is still able to use this just fine, although she has to stand on tippy-toes to reach the upper area to draw but that certainly doesn't slow her down any. I know she'll get many years of use out of this and it's not something she'll quickly out-grow.
